The Masters of Confusion and Comedy

Starring Nkem Owoh, "Osuofia in London" is a 2003 Nigerian fish-out-of-water comedy film produced and directed by  Kingsley Ogoro. Osuofia (Nkem Owoh), a hapless, palm-wine-loving, clever but unrefined villager from southeastern Nigeria, inherits his late brother's (played by Francis Odega) estate in London. He travels to the UK to claim his inheritance, bringing his village sensibilities, traditional attire, and stubborn wit to the streets of England, much to the horror of Sammantha (played by Mara Derwent), his deceased brother's white fiancée.

Nkem Owoh's performance is legendary because, contrary to the assumption that Osuofia is an ignorant villager, he is intelligent in his own indigenous way, unfazed by British high society. Nkem Owoh's acting captures the gold standard of Nollywood comedic timing, with their banter, expressive facial distortions, and proverbs weaponised as insults.

Directed by Amayo Uzo Philips and produced by Chukwuka Emilionwu, "Aki Na Ukwa" stars Chinedu Ikedieze (Aki) and Osita Iheme (Pawpaw), two pint-sized brothers (referred to as their father's two cockroaches), who are solely responsible for terrorising their father (Amaechi Muonagor), the bedlam in their home, school, and the entire village, with a continuous barrage of elaborate pranks and malicious mischief. No authority figure, teacher, local elder, or even their father is safe from their schemes.

Within ten minutes of the movie, they are being flogged by their teacher, flogging their father (to show him an example of how their teacher flogged them), being dragged around the village to their teacher's house with a rope around their waist by their father, their father threatening to kill them and divide them into four pieces, them facing accusations of stealing a fellow villager's cash crops.

The movie works perfectly because of the contrast between their innocent, child-like sizes and their incredibly devious, adult-level cunning. Watching them outsmart and exhaust Amaechi is some of the finest slapstick comedy the continent has ever produced.
